Program Introduction

A two-week (January 1-14, 2012) program in Hong Kong and Guangdong involves the participation of MBAs from Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota (hereinafter CSOM), and Lingnan (University) College, Sun Yat-sen University(hereinafter L(U)C).

CSOM and L(U)C recognize the value of cross-cultural educational opportunities. Created as a partnership between the three business schools and Lenovo Corporation, this program offers students a great opportunity to work in multicultural teams and analyze real-life business problems facing Lenovo in Shenzhen, China.

Program Purpose

To enable students at the CSOM and L(U)C an opportunity to work in multi-cultural teams to analyze real-life business problems for Lenovo.

The theme of this course is supply chain resiliency. Increasingly global supply chains confront more complex and unpredictable events that threaten their survival. Specifically this course examines how supply chains survive, adapt, and even thrive in turbulent global environments. Students explore this theme through lectures, site visits and the live case project.

Brief Schedule

Pre-departure class sessions prepare students for the academic program by familiarizing them with important background and terminologies related to the Lenovo case. The program starts with an orientation and a welcome dinner. Students spend their time in class sessions, listening to guest lectures, visiting company sites, and working in groups to prepare for the case presentations. The students meet with managers in Lenovo to further examine the issues and make final recommendations to our corporate partner with official presentations. The program concludes with a final class session and presentations.
