The 3rd Shanghai Finance Forum Organized by SJTU

The world's top financial strength was brought together to focus on the international monetary system reform and the RMB internationalization and to boost the construction of Shanghai International Financial Center at the Third Shanghai Finance Forum held in Shanghai International Convention Center, February 18.
The Forum was organized by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and undertaken by Shanghai Jiaotong University Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (SAIF) and China Finance Research Institute (CFRIN). Shanghai Branch of Xinhua News Agency provided special support, and the Shanghai Financial Services Office provided guidance.
Vice Mayor of Shanghai Mr. Tu Guangshao made a speech at the meeting. Wu Xiaoling, Vice Chairman of Financial and Economic Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress, and Eswar Prasad, former Division Chief of Financial Studies Division & China Division, International Monetary Fund and Professor of Economics at Cornell University made keynote speeches.
Ma Dexiu, Chairperson Shanghai Jiao Tong University Council, and Shen Haixiong, Director of Xinhua News Agency Shanghai Branch addressed the opening ceremony. Present were also over a thousand Chinese and foreign government officials, academic experts and industry representatives as well as professionals from international financial institutions.

Mr. Tu said in his speech that to promote the international monetary system reform and the RMB internationalization was an issue of great concern in all aspects of society, home and abroad. He hoped that the Forum could deepen the research on the RMB internationalization, providing intellectual support and guidance to accelerate Shanghai Financial Center construction, promote the process and grasp the new trend of RMB internationalization.

Ma Dexiu pointed out in her speech that the country had made it clear that Shanghai would be made the Global RMB Center during the 12th Five-Year Plan. This policy would greatly promote the construction of Shanghai as International Financial Center. She believed that the Forum would generate constructive policies and suggestions, and promote the joint participation of the whole community by the guests' brainstorming.

Afterwards, discussions were conducted on the special topics of "The Role of RMB in International Monetary System Reform", "RMB Internationalization and China's Financial System Reform", and "Shanghai RMB Onshore Markets."
Director of SJTU Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance Wang Jiang stressed in his closing address that the RMB internationalization was not the ultimate goal; when we discussed it, we, in fact, saw the importance and urgency of financial reform. He hoped that the Shanghai Finance Forum would be an opportunity for all walks of life to join hands together to play their respective advantages and jointly promote the great cause of China's financial reform.
