Canada Day at Zhejiang University

On November 29, a series of activities of “Canada Day” were staged at Zhejiang University, sponsored by Canadian Consulate General in Shanghai and Zhejiang University Foreign Affairs Department. The event consisted of academic seminars, exhibition of higher education in Canada, Canadian customs, food and paintings, and movie shows etc.

 

“Canada Day” is designed to enhance the cooperation between Zhejiang University and Canadian universities, and to build a platform for communication of governments, enterprises and universities between Zhejiang Province and Canada. It’s the first event named after a country held at Zhejiang University. On the morning, Vice President Wu Ping and Canadian Consulate Consul General Eric Pelletier attended the opening ceremony for the event.

 

At present, Zhejiang University has established collaborative relations with a dozen Canadian universities, including University of Alberta, University of Waterloo, Simon Fraser University, McMaster University, University of Western Ontario, University of British Columbia and so on.

 

Six Canadian universities participated in the exhibition of higher education on Zijingang Cultural Plaza. The Chinese Version of Canadian famous novel Anne of Green Gables was warmly welcomed by students. Canadian artist Stefanie Vallee’s paintings were exhibited at the ground hall of International Convention Center. Vallee introduced her painting skills, stories behind her paintings and the feeling of freedom and adventure in painting process.

 

On the evening, a lecture on Canadian higher education attracted many students. In the lecture, Canadian education experts briefed their education system; international students shared their experiences.
