Parents at YCIS Beijing were invited to meet with the University Guidance Counsellor, Ryan Jordan, to discuss planning for university starting as early as Year 5. The workshop was attended by several parents who came with varying questions about university life, academics, and admissions.

Mr. McCombe, YCIS Beijing Secondary Co-ordinator, reviewed how YCIS Beijing prepares students to be on track for admittance to universities, explaining that “fit” begins at determining the correct courses and activities to engage the student at YCIS Beijing. Mr. Jordan echoed this same message over and over again during his presentation and discussion on how “fit” was determined by numerous factors: location, major and researching universities.

YCIS Beijing’s parents were surprised to learn that US universities do not only look at academic achievements, but consider the holistic and balanced profile of an applying student. Mr. Jordan was able to personally elaborate on this topic given his professional background in US university admissions. However, he was quick to note that the options for higher education study are vast with over 6,000 universities worldwide.

The workshop was a an informative session and YCIS Beijing looks forward to hosting similar workshops in the future and is preparing for a season of university visits.
