What is IB

IB stands for International Baccalaureate. International Baccalaureate consists of three types of course covering the ages from three years old to nineteen years old. International Baccalaureate aims at developing the intelligence, social interaction skills, and study and work capability of the students under the rapid development of the globalized world.

Three types of IB courses:
The course specially designed for the students of ages from 3 to 12 years old, is called “The Primary Years Programme” (IB PYP);

The course specially designed for the students of ages from 11 to 16 years old, is called “The Middle Years Programme” (IB MYP);

The course specially designed for the students of ages from 16 to 19 years old, is called “The Diploma programme” (IBDP).

Up to now, there are 43 schools providing IB courses in China. Among them, 11 schools offer IB PYP; 15 schools offer IB MYP; 38 schools offer IBDP. For specific school name, you can check it on the website: www.ibo.org/.

Domestic high school students have more access to IBDP. The courses lasting for two years consist of three or four High Level Courses (HL) of 240 class hours and three or two Standard Level Courses (SL) of 150 class hours.
